Visiting a place called Shiroda is really fulfilling experience!  One can enjoy this calm place in more than one aspect like social, cultural, historical, nature's beauty etc. Shiroda, 17 km. away from Vengurla, is adorned with coconut palm trees, cypress woods and spectacular sea-shore.  Tourists’ mecca, Goa is only 7 km. away from this divine spot. Shiroda has wonderful literary connection with Dnyanapith award winner V. S. Khandekar.  This great Marathi litterateur was working here as a high-school teacher. He lived here for a long time that he completed majority of his work in this historic village Shiroda. 

In the freedom struggle, Shiroda played its own roll.In Shiroda one can notice Mithagars (place where salt is created, situated near sea shore). In the wake of freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi was leading Civil Disobedience Movement.  He stared this movement in Dandi, Gujarat to end tax imposed on salt by British rulers. Similar act was followed in Shiroda under the leadership of Acharya Dharamand Kosambi, Acharya Jawadekar, Dr. Bhageuwat, Achyutrea Patwardhan, Appasaheb Patwardhan (Konkan Gandhi), Devdas Ranade, Mamasaheb Deogirikar were other stalwarts. This Shiroda version of Civil Disobedience Movement, started on May 12th 1930, resulted in the arrest of 90 satyagrahis (one who fights for the truth). Satyagrahis had to endure lathicharge by Britishers.  This suppression sought its peak on 14th May, but Satryagrahis' strong will proved much stronger than British oppression measures.

Dhamapur Talav

A tourist reader may wonder why special mention is being made of Dhamapur lake again separately when it has been mentioned along with Bhagawti temple of Dhamapur. This special lake deserves the special mention because of its “uniqueness”. This is the biggest lake in the district [and perhaps next only to Tadoba lake.

The lake is situated between Are and katta village. This man-made lake was constricted in 1530 by the king Nagesh Desai [A tributary of Vijaynagar dynast] and has beautiful scenic hill ranges on its two sides. The water is crystal clear and has dense plantation of mango mangosteen grcinia indica (kokam) coconut and areca plam. This is typical fruits of kokan region. The deans’ forest and orchard surrounding the lake has made this one of the most beautiful lake in Maharashtra. Tourist easily feels the change in the atmosphere once they reach the spot. The region has also a rich verity of flaura and fauna. Now the MTDC has made boating facility available in the lake and walk surrounding the lake the forest depth has also constructed beautiful huts on the bank to enable the tourist staying here to enjoy the panoramic view from their cottages.

 Cottages - Beautifully constructed cottages are available to enjoy.

Moti Talav

First look at Sawantwadi, and you can be forgiven for wondering if it is a piece of Nainital which has lost its way and landed up at the foot of Western Ghats. The town was the seat of the Royal family of Bhonsles and still retains some of the stately grandeur. It sits in a bowl of lush green hills encircling a huge lake called Moti Talao. The palace gate and the imposing clock tower are reflected in the waters. Tourists can take a round of the lake in a peddle-boat or can simply feast on the emerald beauty while walking in the lakeside gardens. As the sun sets, streetlights come on at once around the complete perimeter of the lake. It is a moment with something extra to make your vacation unforgettable.

राजकीय पक्ष गेलेत तरी कुठे?

मुंबई येथे लोकल ट्रेनच्या सिग्नल नियंत्रण कक्षात लागलेल्या आगीमुळे मुंबई लोकलची संपूर्ण सिग्नल यंत्रणा मोठ्याप्रमाणात खराब झाली व त्यामुळे रेल्वे सेवा विस्कळीत झाली. त्याचा परिणाम लाखो मुंबईकरांवर झाला.
लोकल ट्रेन हि मुंबईची लाईफ लाईन आहे. पण कालच्या घटनेने हि  लाईफ लाईनविस्कळीत झाली व मुंबईकरांचे हाल झालेत. मुंबईतील रस्त्यांवर आधीच असलेला वाहतुकीचा ताण व त्यात बंद पडलेली रेल्वे यामुळे मुंबई थांबते कि काय अशी शंका निर्माण झाली.
अशा वेळी मनात एक विचार आला कि एवढी मोठी समस्या निर्माण झाली पण स्वतःला गरिबांची, आम जनतेची म्हणून घेणारे राजकीय पक्ष मात्र कुठे दिसलेत नाहीत. मुंबईकरांना पर्यायी वाहतुकीची व्यवस्था करण्यास एखाद्या पक्षाने काही केले असे ऐकिवात नाही. रेल्वे सेवा विस्कळीत होऊन आता २ दिवस झालेत पण मुंबईतील एकही नावाजलेला राजकीय नेता या विषयी एक शब्दही बोलला नाही किई आपल्या कार्यकर्त्यांना कोण्याही सूचना केल्या नाहीत. मुंबईकरांची समस्या सोडविण्यासाठी कोणताही ठोस असा कार्यक्रम या पक्षांनी हातही घेतला असे दिसून येत नाही आहे.
आपल्या सभेला ट्रक च्या ट्रक भरून आणणारे राजकीय पक्षांकडे आज mumbaiकरांसाठी आज एक साधी रिक्षा पण नाही? खरी गरज असताना राजकीय पक्ष जनतेपासून दूर राहतात व निवडणूक आली कि रस्त्यावर उतरतात हे या घटनेने पुन्हा एकदा सिद्ध झाले आहे. या प्रसंगातून धडा घेऊन या पुढे मुबैकारांनी स्वतःची व्यवस्था स्वतः करायला हवी.
